Plug.events is owned and operated by Public Spaces Technologies Ltd, which itself is run as a collective. Contributors work for a share in the project. We have no salaries or income. In fact, for 4 years, and for at least the next year, our founders have barely had any income at all. Originally we sought venture capital to build this, but quickly realised that the VC industry is largely responsible for this product not being built by someone else, and we were not willing to conform to the ideology of growth for growths sake, without consideration for the negative consequences for users and society.

As we said elsewhere, we have aligned our business model so that we make profit when your communities and incomes grow.

The truth is that this has been incredibly challenging. One of our cofounders literally lives off her garden and a small pension. Another has two young children in a single-income family, with childcare costs that rise every year. The project costs €2500 per year to run, including development tools and hosting and other expenses, which will rise to €7,500 after 2024. All of this amount is currently covered by us, the founders.
